Windies face difficult final day

Set a daunting victory target of 304 runs to get on the final day of the third and final Brighto Paints Test match against Pakistan in Dominica, the West Indies closed the fourth day on seven for one.

A large contingent of fans are expected to descend on the Windsor Park in Dominica on Sunday, to see if the home team can pull of a win and a series victory, a draw which will end the series 1-1 or a loss which will give Pakistan their first Test series win in the Caribbean.

The fourth day was a day of wickets tumbling, as 16 fell for only 210 runs and the fans would have left the park disappointed after the West Indies promised much but did not deliver. Resuming on 218 for five, the West Indies were humbled for 247 with Jason Holder remaining unbeaten on 30 and Roston Chase coming out to bat again after getting retiring hurt on the opening day, making 69.

Pakistan then began their second innings in disastrous fashion and by lunch where eight for two. After lunch the wickets continued to fall under pressure from Shannon Gabriel, Alzari Joseph and leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo. Within a 10-minute period in the second session, Pakistan saw the careers of two great players come to an end, as skipper Misbah ul Haq and Younis Khan both fell. Misbah made just two and Younis 35, as Pakistan slipped to 90 for seven. Good late order batting by Mahammad Amir 27, Yasir Shah 38 not out and Hasan Ali 15 not out, allowed Pakistan to declare at 174 for eight to set the West Indies 304 to win the Test.

Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Keiran Powell had a testing period to endure towards the end of play and the latter could not survive, falling on the final ball for four, as West Indies closed on 7/1.
