SOUTHAMPTON, England – Head coach Vasbert Drakes spoke to CWI Media today, after the West Indies Women’s teamlost a practice match against a strong England Women’s XI on Wednesday, as they continue preparations for the ICC Women’s World Cup to be staged from June 24 to July 23 in England.
Windies Women’s captain Stafanie Taylor showed early signs of form, stroking an attractive 60, as the visitors were dismissed for 150 in 49.3 overs on a hard, true Loughborough University pitch.
Deandra Dottin made 25 and opener Hayley Matthews added 22, but they were three of only four to reach double figures.
In reply, England Women easily overhauled their target, but batted the full 50 overs, finishing on 281 for seven.
Natalie Sciver (pronounced Seaver) followed up a destructive four-wicket spell in the field with a top score of a run-a-ball 86 to anchor the home team batting and opener Tammi Beaumont hit 52.
The Windies Women overnight returned to this southern English city, where they are using the home of the Hampshire County Cricket Club as their training base for a 17-day period before moving to the city of Leicester for the formal start of the Women’s World Cup programme.
WEST INDIES WOMEN 150 off 49.3 overs (Stafanie Taylor 60, Deandra Dottin 25, Hayley Matthews 12; Natalie Sciver, Danni Hazell 3-21)
