Skipper Navin Bidaisee had a brilliant all round game, as T&T U-19s defeated the Windward Islands by 120 runs in their opening match of the Regional U-19 series at Coneree in St Kitts yesterday.
Set 288 runs for victory, the Windwards fell to spinners Justin Gangoo and Bidaisee for 167 to spark celebrations among the Red Force players. Bidaisee who nabbed four wickets for 29 runs in the first essay, came back to take 4/69 in the second, for match figures of 8/98.
In addition to his wonderful bowling he scored 39 runs in his team’s second innings, taking them over the 200-run mark after they resumed on the third and final day on 112/2. T&T finally made 207 all out to set the Windwards 288 for the win.
Joining in the demolition job was Naparima College student Justin Gangoo. He snared four wickets for 30 runs, as the Windwards batsmen continued their struggle against spin. The man standing in between the two teams was Tahj Taveneir who made 57. He was the final man dismissed to give T&T the comfortable victory.
In another match, Guyana defeated the Leewards by 63 runs.
