T&T U-15 cricketers off to Barbados

A confident T&T U-15 cricket team left for Barbados yesterday, looking to return as champions again after their wonderful performance last year.

This year the team will be captained by Tariq Mohammed with Govanni Gajadhar as the vice-captain. Mohammed who skippered South to the Interzone title will have a lot on his shoulders in terms of batting. He was good enough to be selected to the national team for the U-17 series that they won recently right here in Trinidad.

He will have with him the very promising Darren Samlal, who has caught the eye with his aggressive left handed batting. The Naparima College student is keen to go out there and make a mark for himself. “I am very excited to get on to the field to get in some action. I have been training hard and I am looking forward to presenting my best effort for my country. I have played with some of these guys before, being on the national team last year and I am confident that we have the talent in this squad to go all the way.

Glen Dwarika will perform the duties as coach with school’s supervisor Anthony Ramjit the manager. T&T will play their opening game tomorrow against Jamaica at Brighton. The tournametn will take a round robin format with the team garnering the most points at the end of this phase being crowned champions.
