South opens with U-17 win

The South Zonal Council U-17 team opened their campaign in the Shell
2018, U-17 Interzone series with an easy 35-run win over East Zone at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.

South batting first tallied 226 all out in 49.3 overs with Gregory Nandlal
hitting a top score of 67 runs. Giving him good support was skipper Antonio Gomez who got 40. Naparima College student Darren Samlal who has been in form recently scored 36, while all rounder Vanir Maharaj got 25.

When East took strike, they battled well but in the end the experience
of the South Zone squad proved too much for them. East ended up on 191 all out – giving South the victory by 35 runs.

Rivaldo Ramlogan took 3/43 to be the pick of the Southern bowlers, while
left arm orthodox spinner Jonathan Frederick grabbed 2/38. Fast bowler Christian Bernard enjoyed bowling on the Lara surface and finished with two wickets for 14 runs. Presentation College all rounder Jalen Agard was bowled well and took one for eight, while left arm unorthodox spinner Ryan Bandoo playing for the first time for the Zone took 1/29.
