Sunday league preview …
Queen’s Park hunt another title
Queen’s Park Cricket Club will be looking for a repeat of the TTCB 50 overs title when they come up against Merryboys at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Couva from 10am Sunday morning.
Queen’s Park romped into the finals after they defeated PowerGen by 228 runs in the semi-finals at the same NCC on Thursday. New sensation Tion Webster slammed a record 172, while Daron Cruickshank made 108. Sunday, they will look to those two to come good again because Merryboys will be no walkover. The Diego Martin team has been playing good cricket this season and just recently won the TTCB T20 tournament with an easy victory over Central Sports in the finals.
Queen’s Park manager Jeffrey Guillen is confident :”We got a fantastic win in the semi-finals and we are looking to make one more big effort to repeat as 50 overs champions. The team has not been at its best this season after setting a very high standard by winning all titles in 2016. However, having said that, the boys are very determined to lift this title, as we lost out in the T20 tournament. We are leading the three-day league, so we are on course to still win two of the three titles up for grabs.”
His opposite number Patrick Rampersad with one trophy already in the cabinet in the form of the T20 title is confident :”I am very happy with the performance of my team this year. They have won the T20 crown and will be looking to finish high up in the league and of course take the 50 overs title. One thing Merryboys have is experience in the unit and this has worked beautifully this season. Time and time again we have seen experience coming to the fore to take the team to victories and we expect nothing different in this final.”
