The finals of the inaugural Nick’s Sporting Goods T20 tournament will take place this evening when Links XI comes up against Secret Storm at the Evergeen ground in Woodland, South Trinidad.
Secret Storm earned the rights to play in the Pink Ball finals, after they defeated Youngstarz in the Eliminator on Thursday night also in Woodland. Secret Storm batted first and scored 180 for four in 20 overs with Tariq Abdul hitting the topscore of 97 not out. He was well supported by A Browne who counted 42. the pick of the bowlers for Youngstarz was National Under-17 captain Mbeki Joseph, who claimed 2/17. Youngstarz then made a bold attempt at getting the winning target but fell short at 150 for nine in their 20 overs. Joseph returned with the bat to spank 34, while Avinash Mahabirsingh scored 21 and Lorenzo Loubon 26. Shami Mahase bowled well and ended with 3/23, while Abdul rounded off a wonderful game by taking 2/22.
Tournament organiser Vishal Ramnarine said the finals will get off at 6pm but a Sixes tournament will be played from 4pm. “We are expecting another good crowd for the finals and we hope to see another exciting match. The standard of the cricket has been good in this tournament and the teams have really represented well. As organisers we see all teams as winners and we wish all the players the very best.”
Ramnarine said there is will be winner even if the rain affects the contest because the officials will then turn over to net run rate to determine a winner.
