Montrose Government and Preysal Government will come head to head in battle for Atlantic 2017 honours, when the finals of the tournament will be played at the Queen’s Park Oval from 5pm on Wednesday evening.
The two teams have been in great form this season and towards the back end of the tournament, it was always looking as if they would clash for the title. Montrose got over Whim Anglican from Tobago in the first semi-finals. Montrose won the toss and decided to send Whim in to take first strike. The boys from the Sister Isle was led by Orlando James who struck a top score of 15. Daniel Hope bowling for Montrose nabbed four wickets for just 14 runs in three overs. He was well supported by Mathias Bruzuiel with three wickets for 17 runs from five penetrative overs. When Montrose took to the crease they found the going easy and took the game in just 9.2 overs reaching 62/1. The batsmen leading the victory march was Nick Ramlal who scored an unbeaten 21.
In the other semi-finals, Preysal Government bowlers were on fire, as they ripped apart the Rochard Douglas batting for just 59 runs. S Ramdeo looked good in counting 21, while Extras were the second top scorer with 15. L Lalchan was the pick of the bowlers with 4/26, while T Persad also got into the action by taking 2/18.
When Preysal replied, they got a healthy contribution of 38 from Extras, as only T Persad with 11 got into double figures. They were able to record the win and move into the finals.
On Wednesday, the Boys U-11 finals will also be played and action in this match gets off at 10am. San Francique Hindu will square off against Tunapuna Pres, in what should be a very exciting encounter.
The girls finals will come off at 2pm, with Bonne Avenue Presbyterian doing battle against Cunaripo Presbyterian.
