All rounder Aleem Mohammed was in fine form with both bat and ball as he took school Rochard Douglas into the semi-finals of the Atlantic National Primary Schools tournament, with a 32-run victory over Sangre Grande Hindu at Knowles Street Recreation ground on Thursday.
Sangre Grande won the toss and decided to send Rochard Douglas in to bat. At the end of 20 overs they would have thought that they were still in the contest, as their bowlers restricted the Southerners to 131 for the loss of seven wickets in allotted 20 overs.
Leading the was for Rochard Douglas was Aleem Mohammed with 28 runs and he was ably supported by Shameer Mohammed and Sachin Butkoon scoring 14 runs. Leading the bowling attack for Sangre Grande Hindu was Aidan Lakhansingh with three wickets for 16 runs, while Shiva Singh nabbed 2/24.
In their reply Sangre Grande Hindu was only able to get to 99 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Keshan Singh scored 25 to be the leading run getter and Lakhansingh enjoyed a good game by getting 21 after his fine bowling. However, the day belonged to another all rounder in the form of Mohammed, as he bowled three excellent overs, giving away only nine runs but more importantly taking three wickets. Shiva Ramdeo was also good in taking 2/21 to ensure the victory.
With the win, Rochard Douglas advances to the semi final game on Monday evening from 5pm in Endeavour at the Avidesh Samaroo Ground.
Joining them in the semis will be Bamboo Government who dominated Preysal Government at the Avidesh Samaroo ground. Brilliant bowling by Aneal Rooplal who grabbed six wickets for six runs, saw Preysal fold for just 39 runs. Nickel Fletcher then scored an unbeaten 24 to take Bamboo home after just eight overs to 43/1.
