Left-arm Spinner Shanel Daley

SOUTHAMPTON, England – Left-arm spinner Shanel Daley spoke to CWI Media today, following the first training session for the West Indies Women’s team, since they arrived for the ICC Women’s World Cup to be staged from June 24 to July 23 in England.

The 28-year-old Daley is making a return to the Windies Women’s side, following a knee injury that sidelined her for more than two years.

She has appeared in 64 One-day Internationals, taking 71 wickets at 22.09 apiece, since making her debut against Sri Lanka Women a little under 9 ½ years ago in Dambulla.

Daley and the rest of the Caribbean side trained for over four hours on a partly sunny day on the nursery ground at the well-appointed Ageas Bowl.

They will use the home of the Hampshire County Cricket Club as the base for a 17-day training camp before moving to the city of Leicester for the formal start of the Women’s World Cup programme.
