New spin bowling sensation Rashid Khan was in top form on Tuesday night, as he led his country Afghanistan to victory over the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Pres XI at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
The leg-spinner fresh from a successful IPL T20 tournament, took three wickets for 11 runs, as Afghanistan won by 12 runs. Batting first Afghanistan scored 115 for nine in 20 overs. Leading the way with the bat was opener Usman Ghani with 33 of 34 balls, including four fours and a six. Fast bowlers Sheldon Cottrell and Miguel Cummins both took three wickets, while spinner Veersammy Permaul nabbed two.
When the Pres XI went to bat, opener Johnson Charles took charge and victory seemed only a formality. However, the right hander did not get the required support from his teammates as they all struggled. He counted 53 from 44 balls with five fours and two sixes. Khan took three for 11, Mahammad Nabi and Amir Hamza each took two wickets.
