Hillview takes the double

Hillview College completed the double in the PowerGen Secondary Schools cricket league when they defeated Naparima College in the finals of the Intercol at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) on Friday night.
All rounder Sachin Seecharan stole the show in front of a good sized crowd at Balmain and when the final run was scored there was massive celebration, as Hillview had just added the Intercol title to the league crown they had won earlier in the season.
Seecharan grabbed 2/22 earlier in the game, as Naparima batting first on a green top made 96 all out from 20 overs. The Hillview opening bowlers TeShawn Alleyne and Jean Pierre Barrie were brilliant and Naps reeling early on with the loss of mainstay and skipper Cephas Cooper for just two and the Southerns slipped to 21 for three within the ‘powerplay’. They never recovered from this position and was eventually dismissed on the final ball for 96. Top-scoring was Avinash Mahabirsingh with 31, as spinner Kareem Muradali finished with 4/21.
Hillview then got off to a flyer when they began their chase posting 26 runs by the third over. Wicketkeeper Leonardo Julien scored a quick 16 before being dismissed and fellow opener Jonathan Hosein followed at 42. Any Hopes Naparima had of coming back into the contest were killed off by Seecharan. The little left hander favoring the onside was able to reel off a number of boundaries and when the victory target was achieved at 99/2 – there were still seven overs and two balls remaining. Seecharan counted an unbeaten 45, while captain Dexter Sween got 16 not out.
At NCC: Naparima College 96 all out (20ovs) (Avinash Mahabirsingh 31, Sachin Seecharan 2/22, Kareem Muradali 4/21, TeShawn Alleyne 1/16, J Barrie 2/12) vs Hillview College 99/2 (12.2) (Sachin Seecharan 45no, Dexter Sween 16no, Leonardo Julien 16) – Hillview won by 8 wkts.
