Left-hand opening batsman Chris Gayle makes his return to the West Indies team for the Finolex Pipes T20 International against India on July 9 at Sabina Park, Jamaica.
The 37-year old is the most prolific batsman in the Twenty20 format for the West Indies with 1,519 runs at an average of 35.32 and strike rate 145.49 which includes two centuries. This will be Gayle’s first T20 International match in front of his home crowd at Sabina Park.
Cricket West Indies Chairman of Selectors, Courtney Browne expressed his delight in having the Jamaican back in the West Indies colours and highlighted the value he will bring to the team.
“We welcome Chris back to the T20 squad. He is the most prolific batsman in this format and will add value to our team at the top of the order. He will get the chance to play on his home ground and against a top-quality Indian team,” said Browne.
He continued, “This squad has a good mix – experience within the batting and bowling – it is a well-balanced squad. Again, this is an opportunity for the young players to showcase their talent and for the experience players to perform and help nurture the young players.”
