Universe Boss Chris Gayle became the first batsman to hit 1000 sixes when he struck his seventh out of eight today en route to 99 against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.
The big Jamaican left-hander smacked his runs off 63 balls with eight sixes and six fours. His effort took his team King’s XI Punjab to an impressive 185/4 after their 20 overs. In response, Rajasthan Royals made 185/3 winning easily.
Gayle, however, was the star of the show and clobbered his runs in no time. He has know struck 1001 sixes in T20 matches, a whopping 311 more than his fellow West Indian Kieron Pollard who stands in the second position.
Speaking about the feat the big Jamaican said: “A thousand maximums – another record? Oh, man,” he joked when asked about the achievement on Star Sports. “I don’t know, I just have to give thanks. Have to give thanks for hitting it well at age 41. A lot of dedication and hard work has paid off over the years. Still here, still doing it, same way. Very grateful.”
Gayle after missing the first seven matches for KXIP, has now scored 276 runs at an impressive average of 46.0 and a strike rate of 144.50.
