TAUNTON, England – Vice-captain Anisa Mohammed spoke to the Media, after West Indies Women suffered a setback in their ICC Women’s World Cup bid, when India Women led by a second One-day International hundred from Smriti Mandhana landed an eight-wicket victory today here.
Hayley Matthews hit the top score of 43, but a late charge fronted by Afy Fletcher with 36 not out and Shanel Daley with 33 carried the Windies Women to 183 for eight from their allocation of 50 overs, after they were sent in to bat in their second round match on another hard, true Somerset County Ground pitch under mostly cloudy skies.
The Caribbean side grabbed a couple early wickets, but were unable to make further inroads in to the batting, as Mandhana responded with an unbeaten 106 and her captain Mithali Raj gathered 46 to put their side on course for their second victory in the tournament with 45 deliveries remaining.
Summarised scores: WEST INDIES 183 for eight off 50 overs (Hayley Matthews 43, Afy Fletcher 36 not out, Shanel Daley 33; Poonam Yadav 2-19, Deepti Sharma 2-27, Harmanpreet Kaur 2-42). INDIA 186 for three off 42.3 overs (Smriti Mandhana 106 not out, Mithali Raj 46).
